Thanks to buygoogle.com for alerting me to the fact that Google's Web Accelerator is again available for download, after a long hiatus. Just yesterday I referred to the Accelerator as a "short-lived" product, which was obviously wrong. There is no indication on the download page that this download is an updated version, and time will tell whether new users encounter the same troubling security issues seen by original users.
Google Web Accelerator Back in Business

(Page 1)2. I saw until about 20 minutes ago, that there was a difference between http://webaccelerator.google.com/index.html and http://webaccelerator.google.com/ (I suppose the maybe also had a default.html or a index.php or something else). You could find the download at the first one, but it didn't work, it just linked to the same old message:
"Thank you for your interest..."
So maybe it was just a leftover, that nobody discovered before now

3. The site seems to be up and down. I was able to download the GWA MSI file this morning and install it on a new computer. It's the current version (0.2.60.78). A few minutes later, the site again said "we have currently reached our maximum capacity ..."
I posted screen shots of the before and after at http://www.buygoogle.com/2005/09/gwa-is-back-update.html
GWA was left for dead when the beta was pulled last May, but it's very much alive. I've been seeing regular version upgrades over the last 6 weeks or so, and now the beta is sporadically open.
And my "hours saved" counter is cranking:
Load Time for 88734 Pages
Without Google Web Accelerator: 31.3 days
With Google Web Accelerator: 30.4 days
Total Time Saved: 22.7 hrs
4. Does it really help? I can't verify Google's numbers, but my "hours saved" counter keeps marching upward.
When I commented on this post 3 days ago, I was at 22.7 hours saved. This morning it flipped over to "1.0 days saved."

5. I am going to try it but read through this....
· Google Web Accelerator sends requests for web pages, except for secure web pages (HTTPS), to Google, which logs these requests. Some web pages may embed personal information in these page requests.
· Google receives and temporarily caches cookie data that your computer sends with webpage requests in order to improve performance.
RIGHT HERE !!!
· In order to speed up delivery of content, Google Web Accelerator may retrieve webpage content that you did not request, and store it in your Google Web Accelerator cache.

1. Already no download available, they've reached the "maximum capacity of users" they can take.
