Our publisher here at Weblogs Inc., Jason Calacanis, was interviewed by JenSense, keying off his recent forecast of earning a million dollars per year from AdSense. Asked about any technical secrets to the success of AdSense, the take-home points were: Remove borders from the ad units (maske the border color identical to the page background color), and make the ad links the same color as other links on the page. In other words, maske the ads blend in. Jason also forcasted that Google and Yahoo! would evolve to offer "blended buys," mixing CPM inventory with PPC—and the CPM stuff would have a floor pricing for high-traffic sites. Also, Jason wishes Google would divulge its share percentage. Who doesn't?
