WebmasterWorld is alive with fresh rumors that affiliate marketers might be barred from AdWords, or, at least, that those without a landing page would be prohibited from advertising. The problem with the "aff" ads which populate the AdWords column so densely is that they drive up bid prices and drive down competing positions. Also, the affiliate advertisers tend to lack commitment to their keywords, roiling the economics of certain niches. Countering the rumors are those who, sensibly, point out the tremendous revenue hit hit Google would suffer by such a sweeping move. Another thread from October discusses the same issue.
