As Google, Microsoft, and (probably) Yahoo! charge toward the desktop, a search startup called Blinkx is attempting to gain first-mover advantage. Blinkx offers a beta Windows-only program that searches transjparently across the Web and local files. The results are presented in graphical, 3-D format.

1. My first thought on seeing the story and screenshot was, "I can't take graphical displays of search results seriously; I ain't looking firther because I don't see how a graphical-looking search is going to take over the mass market. All the graphical search tools I have tried, including grokker, seemed like toys or academic curiousities. What were they thinking?" Am I alone in my reaction to this?
My second thought is that maybe I should download it sometime and give them a chance. It didn't hold up to the first one; deep down I know that my first hunch is probably right. No, not just "probably"! What were they thinking?
